Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 22, 2026
Neighbourly ("we", "us", "our") operates a hyper-local neighbourhood services app that helps people nearby find and offer help with everyday tasks, and reconnect lost items with their owners. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
This policy is written to comply with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act"). By using Neighbourly, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.
Information We Collect
Account information: your name, email address, and phone number when you sign up.
Location data: your device's GPS location, or a location you manually search for, used to show you nearby tasks and helpers within your chosen radius.
Identity verification data: to help build trust between neighbours, we offer optional identity verification through either Aadhaar OTP verification or a selfie photo. If you choose Aadhaar verification, your Aadhaar number is used only to complete OTP verification and is not stored by us. If you choose selfie verification, your submitted photo is stored securely and privately for review, and is never shown publicly.
Profile and content data: your profile photo, bio, task listings, photos you upload for tasks or Lost & Found posts, and messages you send through in-app chat.
Usage data: basic device and app information needed to keep the app secure and working properly.
How We Use Your Information
To create and manage your account, and to show you tasks and helpers near you.
To verify your identity and display a Verified badge, helping build trust between neighbours.
To enable in-app messaging between you and other users you choose to contact.
To detect and prevent misuse, fraud, or unsafe behaviour on the platform.
To send you account-related emails, such as confirming your email address.
Who We Share Data With
We do not sell your personal data. We only share data with the service providers that help us run Neighbourly:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage hosting
- Vercel — application hosting
- Google — used to send account-related emails
Your Rights Under the DPDP Act
You have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data.
You have the right to withdraw consent for optional features, such as identity verification, at any time.
You may raise a grievance or ask us any question about your data by contacting our Grievance Officer below.
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it by law.
Data Security
We use database-level access controls (Row Level Security) so your private data — including verification photos and contact details — is only accessible to you and, where necessary, authorised reviewers. Verification selfies are stored privately and are never publicly accessible.
Children's Privacy
Neighbourly is intended for users aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Changes to This Policy
